What happened to the AIS machines for Top Up / Bill Payment?

I used to use them at the AIS shops, but they seem to have removed them all a couple of months ago.

Are they coming back? I see that True still has the machines.

ngl i kinda miss those machines too but they were always a pain when the touchscreen stopped working mid transaction. i've just been using the SCB app to top up directly, you can scan the QR from any AIS receipt or just type in your number. faster than walking to a shop imo

if you're around On Nut there's still one old kiosk at the AIS shop inside Lotus but the staff told me it's getting removed next month. the TrueMoney ones at BTS are the real backup now, they take cash and work for AIS no problem

The machines at AIS shops were actually outsourced to a company called "Kiosk by AIS" and they ended the contract earlier this year. I noticed they started disappearing around March from the Rachadamri shop first.

You can still do cash top ups at their service centers inside CentralWorld and Paragon, the staff will process it at the counter instead of the machine. Or if you have a bank app, most Thai banks let you top up AIS directly through mobile banking without needing the AIS app at all.

they pulled them because the contract with the kiosk vendor expired and AIS didn't renew it. i asked at the Thonglor shop and they said the maintenance costs weren't worth it since most people use the app now

if u have a Krungsri or Bangkok Bank app those both let u top up AIS directly under "bill payment" without needing any AIS account. or the 7-Eleven counter is fine too, just tell them "top up AIS" with your number

the TrueMoney machines at BTS are actually the most convenient option if you're already on the train. they take cash and work for AIS, True, and even DTAC. i use the one at Asok all the time

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
