Do we need a reservation for BKK Social Club?

Would the Four Seasons Hotel accept walk-ins? Or alternatively for any of the other top bars in Bangkok (Vesper, Mahaniyom etc).

Thanks!

honestly if u're set on BKK Social Club for a weekend, just book. the free reservation on their site takes 2 mins and skips the whole awkward "how long's the wait" dance at the door. walk-ins work but u might end up at the bar instead of a river seat, and that view is half the point.

for a different angle: skip Vesper on fridays entirely, it gets loud with after-work crowds and the speakeasy charm dies. go on a monday or tuesday instead, that's when the bartenders actually chat with u. mahaniyom's worth the booking hassle, but if u can't get in, try Teens of Thailand a 10 min walk away, same owner, more casual, still great drinks.

one thing nobody said: check the hotel's own app for BKK Social Club, sometimes they release last minute slots there that don't show on the website. and if u're solo, u can almost always slide into the bar counter without a res, even on saturdays.

The Four Seasons hotel itself won't turn you away, but BKK Social Club is a separate operation from the lobby bar, and they do hold back some tables for walk-ins. I'd say your odds are decent if you show up before 8pm on a weekday, but Friday and Saturday nights are a different story, the place gets packed with hotel guests and expats who know the deal.

For Vesper, it's less about reservations and more about timing since it's a proper cocktail bar with a small room. If you're set on going after dinner, like 9pm or later, booking is smart because that's when the bar stools fill up with regulars. Mahaniyom is the one I'd actually reserve without question, it's a tiny spot and the word got out fast, so even a Tuesday can feel busy.

One thing nobody mentioned: if you're doing a bar crawl, start at Vesper around 6pm when it's quiet, then move to Mahaniyom for a later slot, and finish at BKK Social Club for the view. That way you're not stuck waiting anywhere and you get the best of each vibe without the stress.

bkk social club def takes walk ins but the queue can get long after 9, especially fri & sat. if u want a good seat by the river, book ahead on their site, it's free. vesper is more chill, walk in usually fine unless it's a holiday, they got that speakeasy vibe. mahaniyom is smaller, i'd book that one, it fills up fast with locals. honestly if u're flexible with time, just show up early, like 6-7, and u're golden anywhere

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
