I want to get dental braces in Bangkok - How was your experience?

I heard the Bangkok Orthodontics make their money for each adjustment, thus they milk you by slightly adjusting your braces...

Resulting in you wearing them for multiple years.

I want to get it done ASAP, so I can get double-jaw surgery with the braces on...

I recently learned you need the braces on during the surgery.

Just wondering how long did you have the braces?

And what's your review on your BKK ortho experience?

When I was younger, in the US, I had mine for about 18 months.

the package pricing thing is key but also check if they include the surgical hooks in the price. some clinics charge extra for those when u start prepping for double jaw surgery, which caught me off guard. i went to smile dental on sathorn and they had a separate fee for the surgical wires and hooks that added like 15k baht.

for surgery prep specifically, ask about their "pre-surgical orthodontics" timeline. my ortho at bangkok smile center said 8 months minimum before theyd even let me see a surgeon. that part is non-negotiable apparently because they need to decompensate your bite first.

honestly if youre serious about doing this fast, look into snsd dental near thong lo. they have a dedicated surgery planning team and my friend got his braces on in january, surgery in august, braces off by february the next year. that's about as quick as it gets here.

honestly the whole "milking you on adjustments" thing is overblown if you pick the right place. i went to bangkok international dental center near asok and my ortho was straight up about the timeline from day one. they told me 18-24 months and i was done in 21, no extra games.

the key is finding a clinic that does fixed pricing per package instead of per visit. most of the reputable ones near sukhumvit do that now. bracify in siam square is another option, they quoted me a flat rate for everything including the surgery prep.

for double jaw surgery specifically, make sure your ortho has worked with a maxillofacial surgeon before. the coordination matters a lot. dr. santi at bangkok hospital told me he sees a lot of patients who waste months because their ortho and surgeon don't communicate.

had mine at smile dental on sukhumvit 39, dr. anan was my ortho. he does a lot of surgical cases so he knew exactly what timeline i needed for the jaw surgery prep. my total was about 20 months but the first 8 were just getting my bite ready for the surgeon.

the thing about the adjustment milking is real at places like the ones on silom where they charge 2000 baht per visit. i went with a flat rate of 65k for everything and it covered all adjustments, retainers, and the surgery planning x-rays. just make sure they write it in the contract that "all necessary adjustments" are included.

for the surgery timeline, your ortho will prob want you in braces at least 4 months before the procedure to get your teeth stable. my surgeon dr. charoen at bnh said he's seen too many people try to rush it and end up needing a second surgery. better to do it right the first time.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
