What activities do people do during the extreme weather seasons?

ngl the heat got me too when i first moved here but you just shift your whole schedule. i do most of my errands and exercise between 6-9am then hide indoors til like 4pm when the sun starts mellowing out. for rainy season I actually love it cause the city empties out a bit and the air smells clean, I'll grab a book and camp at a cafe near ekkamai for hours watching the rain

the heat is no joke but you kinda learn to work around it. most thais i know schedule their outdoor stuff for early morning or after sunset, like hitting the park at 6am or grabbing street food around 8pm when it cools down a bit. for rainy season, soi 11 and thong lo have a ton of rooftop bars with covers so you can still drink outside while it pours, feels kinda cozy actually

Honestly most people just crank up the AC and go about their day as usual, you'll see malls and coffee shops packed during the hottest afternoons. For the rainy season, a lot of folks carry a small umbrella and keep going, it's rare that a storm totally stops things here.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
