I want to take them to a good restaurant serving thai cuisine in and around asoke. They are not generally comfortable eating in restaurants where meat is served. Any recommendations ?

broccoli revolution on sukhumvit 19 is your best bet, it's fully vegan thai and no meat anywhere in the place. they do a mean pad thai and the tom kha is solid, plus the space is nice for parents. if they want something more casual, may veggie home is a short walk down soi 16 and it's a proper thali-style place but with thai dishes. both are under 300 baht a dish and open for lunch

If your parents are uneasy around meat, you could also consider Na Aroon on Soi 1, though it's a bit further from Asoke. It's a vegetarian kitchen inside a small hotel, fully meat-free, and they do a proper khao soi and a decent green curry with fresh vegetables. The setting is calm and garden-like, which might put them at ease. That said, it's pricier than Broccoli Revolution, closer to 400 baht a dish, so it depends on your budget. For a quick lunch, the vegan stall at EmQuartier's food hall on the 5th floor also works, it's not a full restaurant but they have pad see ew and som tam made without fish sauce, just ask.

parents who are that strict about meat around, i'd actually point you to the vegetarian thai place inside the benjasiri park area, it's called "the vegan table" on soi 22, not the big touristy one. they do a killer pad kra pao with minced mushroom that tastes almost like the real thing, and the whole kitchen is separate, zero meat ever touches it. it's a bit of a walk from asoke bts, like 15 mins, but the park across the street is a nice spot to sit after if your folks need a breather.

also, heads up, a lot of places here use oyster sauce or fish sauce in "vegetarian" dishes, so even if the menu says veg, double check with the staff. at the vegan table they're 100% on it, no eggs either, and they'll confirm everything in thai for you. prices are around 200 baht a plate, and they close at 9pm, so you're good for a relaxed dinner.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
