Where are your go to's? Used to have loads of places in the UK where I'd go on a walk and have a beer, but here not so much. Any suggestions. Remember no titties

honestly try the old town area around Banglamphu, not Khao San itself but the soi's off it. there's a few proper old school bars on soi rambuttri that are dead quiet on weeknights, just a dude with a fan and a chang. also check out the riverfront near tha tien pier, couple of spots where you can sit on a plastic chair and watch the ferries go by without anyone bothering u. if youre near ari, whiskey jar is a solid bet, mix of locals and expats and nobody's gonna try and sell u anything

if you're near on nut, there's a little lane called soi 50/1 with a couple of basic beer shops that just have a few plastic stools out front. grab a singha and watch the motorbikes go by, proper chill. also, the small park next to bang kapi market has a vendor selling cold bottles near the canal, no one bothers you there

Head to the Ekkamai area and find a place called Tuba. It's a quirky furniture store slash bar, super low key during the day, just you and a cold Leo. No one will talk to you unless you want them to.

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
