Ocken is solid for what it is, but it leans more pub-grub than proper Sunday roast. The meat is decent, the Yorkshire is fine, but the gravy comes across as a bit thin sometimes. I'd put it a step below Kai for overall quality, closer to Bangkok Bob but with better atmosphere. The real draw at Ocken is the beer list and the vibe on Sukhumvit Soi 49, not necessarily the roast itself.

yeah i've been to all three. bangkok bob is the most consistent but it's a bit of a trek. kai does the best roasties hands down. ocken i'd only go if i wanted a pint and happened to be hungry, the roast is just alright

I'd actually steer you toward Kai if you're after the real deal. Their roast potatoes have that proper crispy outside and fluffy middle that Ocken just doesn't nail. The gravy at Kai is thicker and more flavorful too, almost like what you'd get at a gastropub back home. Ocken is fine for a casual Sunday with a few pints but I wouldn't go there specifically for the roast.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
