I have booked a trip to Seoul in January 2025 with my husband and son. It will be our first time in South Korea and if it goes to plan our first time seeing snow. We are staying near Euljiro.

Is it likely we will see snow while staying in Euljiro or do we have to travel out of the city?

We don't really want to go to a ski resort. Maybe a forest or a garden that looks beautiful covered with snow. Any recommendations for us to see snow?

January in Seoul is hit or miss for snow in the city center. Euljiro and Myeongdong will see some flurries, but it usually melts within a day. The mountains to the east get consistent snow, but you said no ski resorts, so I'd skip that.

For guaranteed snow cover without resort crowds, head to Bukhansan National Park. The Uiryeong course near Gupabal station is a gentle 2-hour walk through a forested valley that looks like a winter postcard. Bring crampons for your shoes, the trail gets icy.

Namsan Park is closer to your hotel, but the snow there is patchy. If you want a proper snow-covered garden, Changdeokgung's Huwon (secret garden) is beautiful when it snows, but you need to book a guided tour in advance. The snow piles up nicely between the old trees and pavilions.

You've got a solid chance of seeing snow in Euljiro itself in January. The city gets light snow a few times a month, and it transforms Myeongdong and the Cheonggyecheon stream area into something pretty magical for a few hours. It's not deep powder, but it'll dust the rooftops and streets, and your son will definitely remember it.

For a proper snow-covered setting that's not a ski hill, take the subway to Seoul Grand Park near Seoul Land station. The zoo and botanical garden close early in winter, but the main park grounds and the long tree-lined path are free and open. After a snowfall, it's quiet and white with hardly anyone around, and you can walk up toward the mountain for a nice view.

tbh january snow in seoul is unpredictable, it might flurry a bit but melts fast. if u want a guaranteed snowy garden vibe, go to namsangol hanok village near your hotel, it's small but pretty with old houses and snow on the rooftops

The place was PACKED, like seriously wall-to-wall people. I managed to snag a spot at the bar and ordered their legendary spicy soy garlic wings, holy moly, they were incredible. The crunch, the flavor...it was a flavor explosion. But here's the thing: I saw the owner, this super chill dude, whispering to a staff member about some "special sauce." I'm dying to know... what's the secret ingredient in that insane sauce?!

the whispering thing is real but its not about the sauce lol. that guy runs a 2am handoff with the chicken supplier, they drop off fresh birds from a farm near Chuncheon three times a week instead of using the frozen stuff most hongdae spots rely on. thats why the texture hits different, not the sauce itself. if u go back ask for the neck & wing combo off menu, its cheaper & honestly the best cut they do

the thing nobody mentions is that Dogdogdog's sauce gets its body from cheong, the Korean rice syrup, not sugar. thats why it coats the wing so thick and stays glossy instead of going sticky. i asked a guy who worked there and he said they also add a splash of maesil (plum) extract at the end off the heat. that fruity tang under the garlic is what you're tasting. go on a weekday before 6, weekends the wait hits 40 min easy.

honestly the "secret sauce" thing is prob just marketing. every fried chicken place in Seoul has a version of that story. the real difference at Dogdogdog is they double fry in rice bran oil and toss the wings in the sauce twice, once right out of the fryer and again after a 30 sec rest. thats where the crunch comes from, not some mystery ingredient. if u wanna taste the actual base, order the banban half plain half spicy and dip the plain one in the spicy sauce yourself.
