the seongsu recommendation is solid but i'd add that you should check out the back alleys behind the main street - there's a tiny spot called "onion" that the guide mentions but the real find is "mil toast" a few blocks away where they do this incredible honey butter toast that's like 5,000 won and the line moves fast. also for mangwon, hit the market around 5pm when the fried chicken stalls are just setting up and you can grab a half chicken for 10,000 won and eat it by the river, way better than the crowded evening spots
solid write-up. one thing i'd add for the mangwon market suggestion is the tteokbokki stall near the entrance run by an older couple, it's been there since the 90s and they make the sauce from scratch daily, way better than the chain versions. also for naksan park, go up the stairs from dongdaemun station exit 4 instead of the main path, it's steeper but you get this sudden reveal of the city skyline that catches you off guard every time. the park's night view is actually better than the sunset imo because the city lights up and you can see all the way to namsan tower without the crowds
Good list. I'd add that the Seongsu Handmade Shoe Street is worth a proper look, not just a quick walkthrough. There's a third-generation shoemaker near the end of the main strip who still does custom orders by hand, and you can watch him work through the open front window. He doesn't speak much English but he'll nod and smile if you point at a pair you like, and the quality is way above what you'd find in Myeongdong for about 80,000 won.
