moving to chennai in a few months for work and curious how dating actually works there. do people mostly meet through friends and apps or is it more about bars and cafes around nungambakkam? what surprised you most coming from outside

not a local but my visits showed apps dominate early chats while sabha and church circles still gatekeep long-term matches.

i'm not local but visited for work ngl apps felt way more common than people let on, though friends-of-friends still rules for anything serious

What got me was how much dating runs on WhatsApp status and Instagram stories rather than the apps themselves. People meet at work or through hobby groups like run clubs at Besant Nagar beach, then the actual conversation moves to DMs. The Nungambakkam bar scene is more for friend groups than meeting strangers. Also expect family to surface fast once things get serious, so ask early what someone's situation is.
