ive only passed through egmore on trips but fwiw the lodge side of the station is a different exit than the museum one, so check which gate they mean. march is peak season, so lock the room before u book trains.

book direct, walkable to park station area

Direct is right, but the walk only really works to Egmore museum and park station, everything else is auto territory in that heat.

Calling beats the aggregators, rates differ by a few hundred.

stayed near there on a trip last year. walkable to Egmore museum and park station area but Marina and Kapaleeshwarar need autos, no way around it. march is hot so plan morning walks only. for booking, call the lodge directly around 2 weeks out, online rates for these places tend to be inflated or stale.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

yeah calling direct is the move, but ask them to confirm the rate over whatsapp so u have it in writing. march afternoons are brutal so even the egmore museum walk is better before 10am tbh

Ask them to confirm the exact room number and AC type on WhatsApp too, since "AC room" sometimes means a window unit that barely cools a March afternoon.

WhatsApp confirmation is smart, and I'd add the check-in and check-out dates to that message too, since these lodges sometimes shuffle bookings in peak March. The museum walk before 10am is right, but the stretch past the gate gets shade only later, so mornings work best.

two weeks out sounds about right but id also check again right before march in case rates drop

What are the best bars around there for a relaxed evening, and is it easy to get to by auto from the main areas? Any idea what a round of drinks typically costs?

Rajat Jana is in Thiruvanmiyur, not a bar strip itself, so you'd be heading toward ECR or Besant Nagar. I'd pick a place on Elliots Beach Road for a relaxed evening; autos from T. Nagar run 250 to 350 rupees and it's easier via Ola. A round of drinks for two lands around 800 to 1,200 rupees at mid-range bars, more on weekends.

weekday happy hours, 4 to 7

Mostly 12 to 7 at the Besant Nagar ones

agreed, though the ECR stretch near Neelankarai is quieter

Kottivakkam side, midweek evenings

ECR gets pricey on weekends, so book ahead or you'll be stuck waiting at the bar.

yeah that tracks, but tbh the Ola thing depends on time, surge after 10pm makes it pricier than just flagging an auto.
