Best doctor in Chennai for a persistent cough in 2026?
Apollo Greams Road, cash upfront usually.
yep but ask at the billing desk first, some of them process international insurance upfront if u push
Worth asking specifically for their international desk rather than general billing, since that's a different queue at most hospitals there.
Pushing helps but get the pre-auth in writing before any consult. Otherwise you're stuck claiming it back later. What did they tell you about timelines?
ask for the insurance desk in writing before u pay anything, verbal assurances at intake don't count later
the billing desk at bigger hospitals usually wants a card pre-auth before they confirm anything so call ahead. smaller clinics in adyar or besant nagar are often cash only, but consults run cheaper there, like 500 to 800
cash upfront is right but keep the receipt, they itemise the consult separately from any chest x-ray or spirometry so you can claim later. when i went it was around 1000 for the consult alone, tests pushed it higher.
Those receipts matter more than people think since the consult and the chest x-ray get billed as separate line items on the same slip.
second this, go early morning to skip the queue
Try a pulmonologist, not a GP.
Where to meet people in Chennai 2026
check the chennai reddit meetups, they do monthly things & nobody cares if ur new
yeah r/chennai pinned thread has the dates
Reddit meetups are a solid shout, though they've been leaning toward the bigger monthly bar nights lately. There are smaller spin-off groups on the same sub that do coffee mornings in Kilpauk, easier to actually talk to people there.
r/chennai weekly badminton in Nungambakkam, tuesdays
On Central Biriyani, it's more sit-down than grab and go, the kind of place where you linger over a plate of mutton biriyani and nobody rushes you. For recurring meetups, look at the Chennai Trekking Club weekend walks and the board game nights at cafes around Besant Nagar, both draw regulars. Chennai runs on routine, so showing up same time each week beats any one-off event.
Fair point on the routine thing. I'd add the Sunday morning runs that start near the beach, those regulars are pretty welcoming to newcomers. What's the crowd like at the board game nights, mostly students or mixed?
idk about the crowd but a friend said it skews mixed, twentysomethings mostly
the routine point is real, i'd add the marina walking groups that form around 5.30am near the lighthouse, mostly regulars who notice a new face. chennai trekking club also has weekday evening cycling if weekends are packed for u
Ngl the sit-down thing matters, but a solo newcomer at a biriyani table still needs an intro, so ask around about the Adyar/Thiruvanmiyur terrace board game crews too.
Mylapore evening walkers, 6pm daily.
