Is Pattaya the best place close to Bangkok for a week long trip?

Me and my wife will be in Bangkok for a week in April. Looking for recommendations.. somewhere we can relax for a week with a book. Me and my wife will be in Bangkok for a week in April. Looking for recommendations.. somewhere we can relax for a week with a book.

For a week of reading and relaxing, I'd actually suggest staying in Bangkok itself. Rent a place with a pool in a quieter area like Thonglor or Ekkamai, then take day trips to places like the old city or Jim Thompson House. You get the calm without the hassle of packing up and moving hotels, and April's heat means you'll appreciate having a pool to dip into between chapters.

if you really want to get out of bangkok, try koh kret. it's a tiny island on the chao phraya, super quiet, no cars, just a day trip but you can stay overnight at a homestay. way more chill than pattaya and only an hour from the city

Honestly if you're just looking to chill with a book, Pattaya might be too loud and party-focused. Try Koh Samet instead, it's closer than you think and way more relaxed.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
