Is it better to get Baht in Thailand or before going to Thailand?

If I do get it in Thailand, where is the best place to exchange cash? If I do get it in Thailand, where is the best place to exchange cash?

imo it depends how much you're carrying. if it's a small amount like under 10k baht, just bring USD or EUR and hit a SuperRich once you're in the city. the airport ones are fine but the city branches like the one near Siam Paragon have slightly better rates.

for bigger amounts, i'd actually consider opening a SCB or Kasikorn account if you're staying more than a month. you can withdraw from ATMs with your foreign card and the fee is 220 baht per transaction, but the exchange rate is the Visa/Mastercard rate which often beats cash exchanges. just withdraw max 30k baht each time to minimize the fee hit.

one thing nobody mentions - avoid the exchange booths on Khao San Road at night. their rates are like 2-3 baht lower than SuperRich and they'll try to push you into a bad deal when you're tired from traveling.

honestly just bring some cash from home for emergencies, maybe like 2k baht equivalent. then hit a superrich when you land, there's one in the basement of the airport next to the airport rail link that's actually fine. the rates at the airport superrich are usually within 0.1-0.2 baht of the city ones, not worth stressing over. if you're staying near sukhumvit, the superrich on soi 7/1 off nana often has a shorter line than the main branch at asoke

Just get it in Thailand, the rates here are way better than what you'd get abroad. Hit up a SuperRich near a BTS station for the best rates, their orange or green branches are everywhere in central Bangkok.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
