Working with real estate photography in BKK?

Currently, I'm immersed in the world of real estate photography as a side endeavor, contemplating the prospect of transitioning it into a full-fledged career in Bangkok.

Seeking insights and guidance, I've observed a notable disparity in the quality of images utilized by brokers, often leaning towards the subpar end. Is there a noticeable demand for superior, high-quality visuals in property listings?

Furthermore, I'm on the lookout for agencies catering to photographers, a common quest in my current locale. While I don't utilize LinkedIn, I wonder if platforms akin to it are prevalent in Thailand?

Any assistance or pointers would be immensely valued. Thank you kindly.

everyone's talking about condos but the real gap is shophouses and older townhouses in areas like Ari, Phra Khanong, On Nut. Thai agents listing these take photos with their phone in bad light and the places sit empty for months. owners there will pay 4-6k for a proper shoot because the unit value is way higher than a 28sqm rental.

the other thing is drone. almost nobody shooting property here has a decent drone license sorted and developers want aerials of the plot and surrounding soi. getting your CAAT permit takes a few weeks and some paperwork but it immediately puts u in a smaller pool. I know two guys who basically only do aerial for new launches and they're booked solid.

forget agencies entirely. the workflow here is Line groups per project or per agent network, someone posts "need shooter for 3 units in Ekkamai this sat" and you reply. get into a few of those and the work finds u.

the money side is more seasonal than people admit. developers shoot hard before launch season, roughly aug to nov, then it goes quiet around songkran & the low months so u need another income stream to survive the gaps.

for getting in, skip agencies and go direct. walk into sales offices at new condo projects around phrom phong or rama 9, ask for the marketing person, show a before/after of one unit. developers here often hire one main shooter per project so its about timing, not portfolios.

also learn to shoot video, most listings now want a 30 sec walkthrough clip not just stills and that alone doubles what u can charge

One thing nobody's mentioned: the actual condos you'll be shooting are a nightmare to photograph well. Most Bangkok units have terrible natural light, weird mirrored walls, and a balcony view that's either a parking lot or the side of another tower. The photographers getting repeat work here have figured out flash and compositing, not just wide-angle lenses and a tripod. If you can make a 28 sqm studio in Asok look like somewhere people want to live, you'll stand out more than someone with a fancy portfolio of show units.

On rates, don't quote per shoot at first, quote per unit, and be clear about what's included. Editing turnaround matters more than people expect. Thai agents often need images the same evening for a Line blast to their client list, so if you can deliver 15 edited shots within 24 hours you're already ahead of half the market.

For platforms, skip the LinkedIn question entirely and look at Facebook Marketplace and the "Condo Rent Bangkok" type groups. That's where agents actually post and where they'll notice a photographer's work. A Line OA (official account) with a simple booking menu also goes a long way, agencies and developers here treat Line like email.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
