There's been a number of posts about opening a bank account and at least for me, the timing could not have been better.

I am trying to open an account on a Tourist Visa and I have walked into a few branches with some what decent luck.

Now the issue is, I need a Certificate from Embassy. Due to poor English, I have no idea what the 'Cert from Embassy' is.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can go about it?

honestly the easiest way is to just go to the bangkok bank head office on silom road, they deal with tourists all the time and the staff there speaks decent english. the "cert from embassy" they're asking about is prob just a letter confirming your address, which your embassy can issue but it's a pain. if you're from the uk or australia your embassy does it online and you print it yourself, costs around 30-50 usd. but here's a trick - if you have a rental contract with your name on it, some branches will accept that instead of the embassy letter, especially if you bring your landlord along. try the scb branch in central world basement level, the manager there is pretty chill about these things

fwiw if your embassy is being slow or expensive, some of the bigger branches like kasikorn in siam paragon or bangkok bank on silom accept a letter from your hotel manager stamped and signed instead. just make sure the letter has your full name, passport number, and the hotel's official stamp. i've had friends on tourist visas do this and it worked, saved them the embassy fee and the wait.

yeah that's the "certificate of residence" most embassies call it. if you're american, the embassy in bkk does it online thru their notary service, costs like $50 and takes a few days. for other nationalities, your embassy might have a different name for it but it's basically proof you're staying somewhere in thailand. some banks will also accept a letter from your hotel or a work permit if you had one, so maybe ask the branch manager first before going through the embassy hassle

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
