Where can I go to get a quality suit for an affordable price and not get scammed?

I've heard a lot of people have been scammed trying to get a suit. They receive a different material than from what was advertised in the store. Does anyone have any recommendations? Another option that hasn't been mentioned yet is going to the weekend market at Chatuchak. There's a cluster of fabric shops in Section 26 near the main road that sell directly to the public, and a few of them have in-house tailors who'll make a suit from the bolt you just bought off their shelf. You pick the cloth yourself, hand it to their cutter, and there's no bait-and-switch because you're literally watching them cut from the roll you chose.

Prices run around 4,000 to 5,500 baht for a two-piece depending on the fabric weight, and turnaround is usually one week. Just be specific about wanting a half-canvassed front and ask to see the fused interlining they plan to use, some of the cheaper shops will try to glue everything. The place I use is called Nana Textile, tucked behind the food court, but any shop that stocks VBC or Loro Piana rolls on the floor is probably fine.

A lot of the confusion comes from people buying suits from shops that pay commission to tuktuk drivers or hotel concierges. Those shops have to mark up prices 30-40% just to cover the kickback, so the quality suffers. If you walk into any shop on Sukhumvit between Soi 4 and Soi 8 and a guy on the street tries to pull you in, just keep walking.

Better bet is to take the BTS to Phrom Phong and go to The Suit Lab on Soi 26, just past the EmQuartier mall. They work with a factory in Pratunam but do the measuring and fittings themselves, so you skip the middleman markup. A two-piece in a decent Italian wool runs about 6,500 baht and they'll do two fittings, not just one.

The real trick is asking to see the fabric roll before they cut, not just a swatch book. If they won't show you the actual roll, walk out. Also get everything in writing on the receipt, the fabric mill name, the canvassing type, the button material. A shop that's confident in their product won't hesitate to write it down.

I'd skip the Nana area tailors and take the BTS to Thong Lo instead. Walk down Soi 55 and look for a shop called Narin's, they've been on that soi for over 30 years and don't rely on tuktuk drivers bringing them customers. Tell them you want a half-canvassed jacket in a VBC or Reda fabric, those mills are Italian and the cloth is consistent so you know exactly what you're getting. They'll do a basted fitting around day three where you try on the rough-stitched shell, that's your chance to catch any shoulder or sleeve issues before the final stitching happens.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
