Leaving for concert 1 hour before start?
I was hoping to squeeze in dinner near Benchasiri Park at 5pm, finish around 6pm, and then ta… Hi, what's it like trying to get to a concert at Rajamangala Stadium? 7pm Ed Sheeran on a Saturday night.
I was hoping to squeeze in dinner near Benchasiri Park at 5pm, finish around 6pm, and then take a motorbike taxi to the concert which starts at 7.
Is that too optimistic? I'm assuming he's not on stage at 7pm sharp either, but maybe it's worth being there from the start? What time would you guys recommend leaving for the concert?
You've got the right idea with the motorbike taxi, that'll save you the worst of the Ramkhamhaeng gridlock. But from the main road to the actual stadium gate, you're still looking at a 10-15 minute walk through the crowd, plus bag checks.
If you're set on Benchasiri, skip the sit-down dinner and grab something from the food stalls across from Emporium on Sukhumvit 24 instead. That way you're on the bike by 5:45 and walking into the stadium around 6:15 with time to spare.
The motorbike taxi from Benchasiri to Rajamangala is about 15-20 minutes if you're lucky, but the real bottleneck is the last kilometer on Ramkhamhaeng where everything slows to a crawl. I'd give yourself until 6:15 at the latest to leave dinner, and eat at one of the quick places on Soi 24 near Benchasiri rather than a sit-down spot. Ed's opener usually hits the stage around 7:30 but the gates open at 5 and the crowd builds fast, so being there by 6:30 means you can grab a drink and find your seat without stress.
6pm is cutting it way too close honestly. even on a saturday the traffic around ramkhamhaeng is brutal and that's not even counting the pedestrian jam to get through the gates. the motorbike taxi will help but you're still looking at 20-30 mins just from the main road to the stadium.
ed will probably start around 7:30-7:45 but you'll miss the opener and the whole pre-show vibe. if you really want that benchasiri dinner just eat faster or grab something quick like somtam nua near phrom phong and leave by 5:30. aim to be at the stadium gates by 6:30 at the latest and you'll be fine.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
