Where can I go see classical Thai music concerts?

arrow_drop_up 2507 arrow_drop_down

if you're around old town, sometimes wat phra kaew museum does small traditional music demonstrations in the late afternoon, it's more of a casual sit-and-listen thing but the setting is gorgeous. also barge along the river near asiatique has a dinner cruise with classical thai performances, a bit touristy but the musicians are legit and you get to see the temples lit up at night, think it's around 1,200 baht with food included

if you're up for a bit of a drive, the National Theatre on Na Phra That road does traditional khon and classical music shows, usually weekend afternoons. they've got that old-school charm and the building itself is worth seeing, right near the grand palace. tickets are like 200 baht but you gotta book ahead sometimes, show up 30 mins early to grab a seat.

there's a small place called the dandin hall near victory monument that does traditional thai music evenings sometimes. it's a gallery space so the shows are irregular, maybe once or twice a month. tickets are like 300 baht and you sit on floor cushions, real intimate vibe. follow them on instagram to catch the next one

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
