People who live on less than 100k baht per month, how?

arrow_drop_up 2510 arrow_drop_down

yeah 100k is solid, but the real game changer is avoiding the farang tax on everything. like if you're renting a condo through an agent in thonglor you're paying triple what a thai tenant would. my friend lives in an older building near phra khanong for 6k a month and it's totally fine. no pool or gym but who cares when you can just walk to the canal for a run

the other thing is transport honestly. grab bike is like 20-30 baht for most trips, the bts is like 50 max. if you're taking taxis everywhere or god forbid owning a car in bangkok you're burning cash for no reason. my monthly transport bill is maybe 1.5k total

and honestly the biggest expense people mess up is visa runs. if you're doing ed visas or retirement extensions that's like 20k a year plus the school fees. but if you're on a legit work permit it's free. so the struggle is real for digital nomads but not for people with proper paperwork

yeah 100k feels like a lot till u factor in certain things. the real killer for me was alcohol and socializing, if you go out drinking even twice a week at a decent place you can blow 5-10k easy. i switched to buying beer from 7-11 and pregaming at home, saves a ton. also learning to say no to friends who want to eat at those overpriced rooftop spots in silom every weekend

i'm on 45k and it's fine if you don't drink much or eat western food every day. my place in udom suk is 8k for a studio with a/c. grab bike everywhere, 30 baht a trip. the big cost is if you have a visa run or need to pay for health insurance

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
