Are moto-taxi (orange jacket) cheaper than Grab or Bolt?

orange jackets are cheaper for short hops but grab wins for longer rides or if you're carrying stuff. the trick with moto taxis is they charge per person and the price depends on how well you can negotiate, grab gives you a fixed rate upfront. i'd say use orange jackets for anything under 3-4km, grab for the rest. just know the moto guys will try to overcharge tourists, so have the grab price ready to show them as a bargaining chip

honestly i wouldn't write off the orange jackets entirely but they're not always cheaper than grab. the thing nobody mentions is the time factor - during rush hour on sukhumvit or ratchada, a moto taxi will beat grab by like 20 minutes because they weave through traffic. grab bolt drivers get stuck in the same jam as everyone else.

the real hack is using the moto guys for short distances where grab charges a minimum of like 55 baht. you can get a moto from phrom phong to asok for 20 baht if you look confident and know the route. just don't let them take u on the expressway unless u agree on price first, that's where they get u.

yeah they're usually cheaper but the real difference is speed. orange jackets know all the shortcuts and can split lanes so you'll get there way faster than a car stuck in traffic

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
