for something different try the talat phlu area, there's a couple of old chinese medicine shops on the main road that also sell charms on the side. the one next to the guay tiew ruea shop has a glass case with both nang kwak and suvannamaccha, the owner's aunt apparently used to work at a temple workshop so they're hand-carved from takian wood. around 250-400 baht but you can haggle a bit if you buy two. also if you're up for a trip, the weekend market at wat rakang has a monk who makes and blesses them on the spot, he's under the big banyan tree near the river entrance
if you're near the old city, the amulet market on mahannop road is the real spot, not the tourist stalls. it's a narrow soi packed with serious collectors and vendors, you'll find both nang kwak and suvannamaccha charms in brass or wood for way less than wat phra kaew prices. go in the morning before noon when it's cooler and the vendors are still setting up, they're more willing to negotiate then. take the khlong saen saep boat to panfa leelard and walk five minutes, you'll see the crowds.
honestly skip the tourist traps and go to the talad jaroenpol market near ratchada it's open evenings and has a whole section of amulet vendors tucked in the back. i've seen suvannamaccha charms there for like 100 baht less than khao san prices and the vendors are super chill about letting you browse. just take the mrt to huai khwang and walk ten minutes, you'll find it
best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026
yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
