Any tips for cool authentic art galleries or shops? Can be prints that we can take home in our luggage or paintings that we can ship home.

Appreciate any suggestions!

if you're into contemporary thai art that's not just tourist stuff, check out the galleries on soi nana in chinatown. it's a narrow street off charoen krung, a few spots like number 1 gallery and jam have affordable prints and small works, usually around 1000-3000 baht. they're open late too so you can grab dinner in yaowarat after

for something more offbeat, the warehouse 30 complex on charoen krung 30 has a mix of design shops and art spaces. the ground floor often has zines and risograph prints from local artists, easy to stuff in a suitcase. the cafe there is decent if you need a break

if you want to ship a painting, try the gallery at the mandarin oriental hotel's author's wing. it's pricey but they pack and ship properly, and the selection is curated. not for budget hunting but worth a peek if you're in the area

for affordable prints check out the Artists' Garage Sale at River City Bangkok, they do events with local artists selling originals for like 500-2000 baht. if you want something more curated, the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC) has a shop on the ground floor with decent prints and small paintings from Thai artists, prices are reasonable and easy to pack. for shipping, i'd avoid Chatuchak weekend market art stalls unless you really know what you're looking at, quality varies a lot and some are just factory copies

You could try the weekend art market at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre itself, but I'd actually suggest walking over to the small shops around Soi Aree in Phaya Thai. There's a tiny gallery called Serendipity that does limited edition screenprints of Bangkok scenes, and they're usually around 600 baht each. The owner will let you see the studio space too if you ask nicely.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
