Hello All,

I'm from the States and I want to explore popular sois with a lot of nightlife. Other than Suk soi 11, are there any other Suk sois with a lot going on?

Where can I make some English-speaking expat friends? I'll be here for a long term so I prefer to meet those who live here than short-term tourists.

Thank you!

honestly if you want to meet people who actually live here long term, skip the soi hopping and go to a language exchange night. there's one at the speakeasy on soi 49 called bangkok bilingual every wednesday, it's like 80% expats who've been here years and 20% thais wanting to practice english. way easier to have a real conversation than at a club

for a different soi vibe, try soi 23 near asok. it's got that weird mix of massage places and proper bars like the tilt, which is a tiny whiskey bar with a super regular crowd. the owner's an aussie who's been here forever and people just chat across the bar. plus you're right next to the terminal 21 food court for cheap dinner before you drink

ngl hitting up soi 22 is solid advice but if you want something more lowkey for actually talking to people, try the beer garden on soi 4. it's right off nana bts and gets a mixed crowd of expats and travellers but the regulars sit at the communal tables and people are chatty. not the fanciest place but i've met a few locals there who've been in bangkok for years

for a totally different area, check out the bars around ari bts. it's way less touristy than sukhumvit and has a bunch of little wine bars and craft beer spots where the crowd is mostly thai and expats who live in the neighborhood. bar ibis or wong's place are good starting points, you'll see the same faces if you go a couple times

You'll find a totally different scene if you head over to Ratchada, especially around the Esplanade mall area. The bars and clubs there pull in a mix of younger Thais and expats who work in the nearby offices, and it's way less of a tourist bubble than Sukhumvit. Places like Sing Sing Theater or the rooftop at The Continent have a more local vibe and people are open to chatting if you're just sitting at the bar.

For making friends, I'd check out the weekly board game night at The Reading Room on Sukhumvit 49. It's a tiny cafe and the crowd is mostly long-term expats and locals who've been in the city for years, and everyone's there to play something, so conversation happens naturally between rounds.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
