Was supposed to go out with a friend but he changed minds, then wanted to go out with a girl I'm dating but she lives near Bangkhae MRT and won't finish work till 11 PM.

Any reddittors here kind enough to invite my lonely ass? 555.

if you're stuck near bangkhae until 11, the wat phai rong wua area on phetkasem has a small temple countdown that's super local and low-key, starts around midnight with fireworks over the canal. not touristy at all, mostly families and monks doing a little ceremony. bring your own beer if you want, it's that kind of vibe. way less crowded than centralworld and you can actually hear the countdown

if u're open to a more lowkey vibe, the area around bang wa bts has a few riverside spots that do countdowns with cheap beer and local food stalls, way less crowded than central. u could grab a bottle from 7-11 and hang out by the khlong near the station, plenty of people do that and it's surprisingly social. just bring a jacket cause the breeze gets cold after midnight

if u're not dead set on central bangkok, bangkhae actually has a few spots that don't get mentioned much. there's a riverside restaurant called rabeng somtum that does a new year's buffet for like 500 baht, it's right off the mrt line and they usually have a small fireworks show from the neighbor temples. otherwise, the mrt runs late so u could grab her at 11 and head to talad neon near pratunam, it's a night market that stays open till like 3am and has a big screen playing the countdown from centralwOrld without the crush of people

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
