Should I expect issues getting a taxi to Suvarnabhumi Airport Sunday evening?

My flight leaves BKK just after midnight, and I am hoping to get there by 9pm. I was thinking of leaving around 8pm from Phrom Phong. Is it going to be impossible to get a Grab taxi or metered taxi on… My flight leaves BKK just after midnight, and I am hoping to get there by 9pm. honestly you'll be fine getting a taxi from Phrom Phong, there's always a swarm outside EmQuartier even on holidays. the real headache is Sukhumvit road itself, it turns into a parking lot after 6pm with everyone heading to Rooftop Bar or Asiatique for NYE. i'd hop on the BTS to On Nut instead, grab a taxi from there straight onto the expressway, it's faster and cheaper than fighting through Asok traffic. plus the airport expressway tolls are only like 70 baht on a Sunday, so you're not losing much time or money.

if u have grab already set up with a card it's fine but the surge pricing on nye is brutal, i've seen it double or triple. honestly cheaper to just flag a taxi from the street, there's always a few near benjakitti park waiting for fares. leave a bit earlier like 7:30 to dodge the worst of the asok mess

You're actually better off than you might think. Phrom Phong has plenty of taxis and Grab drivers hanging around the Emporium and EmQuartier area, so you won't be stranded. The bigger concern is traffic on Sukhumvit Road itself, which will be crawling from about 6pm onwards as people head to countdown parties around Nana and Asok. I'd leave by 7pm instead of 8pm, take the expressway from Phra Khanong, and you'll be at the airport well before 9pm even with holiday congestion.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
