i'm actually staying in this year but my flatmate is going to that centralwOrld countdown thing, says the stage setup is massive and they got some thai bands playing live. if u want something more lowkey, the rooftop at above eleven has a decent view without the sukhumvit soi 11 chaos, just pricier drinks. honestly the icon siam fireworks are overrated, the river reflection is cool but the crowd management is terrible every year
if youre into a more chilled vibe, asiatique has a nice riverfront countdown with a ferris wheel and live bands. not as insane as icon siam crowd wise. theres a solid little bar called the rooftop at the river end, good spot to watch the fireworks without elbowing people. just book a table by the afternoon
there's a group called bangkok party pals on line that does a meetup at singha park on new year's eve, they set up a small stage with local djs and it's way more chill than the big malls. entry is like 200 baht with a drink included, and the crowd is mostly expats and travelers so it's easy to meet people. just bring cash, the atm line there is a nightmare

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
