Hi there,

I'll be in Bangkok around new year's eve. I've contacted 5 gyms that all said they would be closed around that time (typically, from Dec 30th to Jan 2nd).

Can anyone please recommend a good gym that you know will be open?

Thanks a lot!

ngl you might have better luck with the gyms that cater to actual fighters rather than tourists. sor thorranee in bang khun non is usually open because they've got guys prepping for channel 7 shows, just show up early like 6am and you'll find someone there. fa muay thai near talad thai is another one that doesn't really close for holidays, it's out in the sticks near rangsit so you'd need a taxi but they'll prob have a session going. just call ahead the day before to confirm since schedules can be last minute

honestly your best bet might be hitting up one of the hotel gyms that have muay thai programs, like the one at avani sukhumvit or the martial arts studio inside banyan tree. they don't advertise holiday closures the same way stand-alone gyms do. also check bloodline muay thai on sukhumvit 50, they're a smaller spot run by a thai-british couple and they've been known to run private sessions on holidays if you book ahead. just expect to pay like 800-1000 baht for a private instead of the usual 400 for group class

fair warning, you're gonna struggle finding anything open in the main tourist zones. but hit up muay thai sinsamut out near bang khae, it's a bit west but they've got a solid group of local fighters who train year-round. i trained there on jan 1st last year, no issues, just 350 baht and the kru was happy to have someone show up. grab a taxi from bang wa bts, it's about 15 minutes and 80 baht.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
