19f wants to move to Bangkok for 4-5 months, can I get a condo for this short amount of time?

I'm new to reddit (just made my account) to ask a few q's abt staying in Bangkok. For my university I'm required to go to a different place for internship in our major's industry (minimum 60 days) and I was hoping to go to Bangkok around January/February 2025. I was looking at a few condos and I saw I had to rent them for minimum 1 year, is there any places that go lower than that? Should I try airbnb or staying in hotels? What are the cheaper options?

I have a Thai passport but I lived in Europe pretty much my whole life aside from spending some time in Thailand on summer vacation, hope to live alone but 1-2 roommates is fine, & don't particularly want to stay with family members (they don't live anywhere near Bangkok and I don't want to bother them)

Currently I'm an unemployed bum with extremely beginner experience in reading / writing Thai, am I being too hopeful? I want to plan earlier than my peers because it's been difficult finding a job, and living alone in an expensive EU country I think would cost me more

Sidenote: I will be 20 by the time I will move there, if that helps in any way

you're not being too hopeful at all, plenty of people do this. since you have a thai passport you can skip the visa headaches which is the main thing that trips people up. for 4-5 months look at places on hipflat or renthub with filters for "3-6 months" instead of the standard 12 month lease, a lot of owners will negotiate if you message them directly

if you want something super simple find a serviced apartment near an mrt station. i stayed at one on sukhumvit 71 for 3 months, 18k baht all in with cleaning twice a week. way easier than dealing with deposits and utility setup. just check they allow monthly contracts before you book

for language you'll be fine, most people in bangkok speak enough english and you'll pick up more thai just living there. don't worry about being unemployed now either, cost of living is low enough that you can figure stuff out once you're there

since you have thai citizenship you could also look into renting directly from owners on facebook groups like "bangkok expat condo rentals" or "bangkok room for rent", way less filter than agencies and they're usually open to 4-5 month stays if you offer to pay upfront. just search in thai too "เช่าคอนโดรายเดือน" on facebook marketplace, lots of listings there that don't show up on the english sites

for a 20 year old on a budget, check out areas near bts stations on the sukhumvit line past on nut like bang chak or punnawithi, you can find studios for 8-10k baht monthly and the commute into central is still quick. those neighborhoods have plenty of street food and local markets so you won't blow your budget eating out

if you're worried about the language, get the app "thai fast dictionary" for your phone, has audio pronunciation and you can copy paste thai text into it. most condo juristic offices will have someone who speaks basic english but having that app saved my ass a few times with utility bills and maintenance stuff

the 1-year minimum is just what agents put on listings to filter out short timers. if you walk into a building management office directly and say you want 4 months cash upfront, a lot of places in the older buildings will take it. try areas like ari or ekamai where there's fewer mega property management companies, the mom-and-pop owners are way more flexible

for your timeline, january is high season so serviced apartments might be pricier than normal. check agoda or booking dot com for monthly rates on places like ascott or somerset, sometimes they're cheaper than airbnb when you book direct for 3+ months. also if you're on a thai passport you can open a local bank account easily, which helps with direct bank transfers for rent instead of paying credit card fees everywhere

the job situation in bkk for interns is mixed but if your thai reading is beginner, look for international companies or startups that operate in english around silom or sathorn. plenty of european firms have regional offices there and they're used to hiring dual passport holders for short stints

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
