Bigger guys, how do you deal with the heat and other endless issues you face while living in BKK?

arrow_drop_up 1153 arrow_drop_down

imo the heat is what it is but the real struggle is finding restaurants where you can actually sit without your gut hitting the table. i've got a list of places with proper armchairs or booth seats, like the seafood place on charoen krung soi 51 where the owner is a bigger dude himself so he gets it. also learned to avoid soi cowboy entirely during happy hour, those narrow bars with the low stools are a nightmare for anyone over 100kg

arrow_drop_up 24 arrow_drop_down

honestly the trick is to just accept you're gonna sweat and plan around it. i've got a few pairs of those uniqlo airism undershirts that actually help a ton under a regular shirt, and i carry a small towel in my bag for the bts or when walking through siam. for the bigger guy problems like finding clothes, i stick with the tailor shops around pratunam for shirts that actually fit right without looking like a tent or bursting at the buttons

big guy here, one thing nobody mentions is how the humidity wrecks your phone if you keep it in your pocket. i switched to a crossbody sling bag just to keep my phone dry and it saved me from replacing a screen that got fogged up. also, the bts skytrain AC is inconsistent so i always stand near the doors where there's more airflow, learned that after sweating through a shirt on the sukhumvit line in under 10 mins

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Their som tam is prob the most authentic I've found in the city, and the grilled chicken is always on point. Anyone else go here?
arrow_drop_up 210 arrow_drop_down

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
