I am looking for either a private teacher or a language school with flexible hours and small groups for in-person teaching.

No online lessons and no ED-Visa required (I'm on an elite visa already)

Does anyone have recommendations? How much should I expect to pay for a private tutor?

you could try the school at ploenchit center, the one on the 3rd floor near the japanese food court. they do pay-as-you-go private lessons, no contract, around 800 an hour. the teachers there are all native thai but trained specifically for teaching foreigners, so they get your grammar struggles better than a random facebook tutor

just to add a different option, there's a place called thai language studio on sukhumvit 33 that does small group classes capped at 4 people. they're not a visa mill so they're fine with elite visa holders. private rates are around 700 an hour but their group rate drops to like 250 per person if you bring your own group of 3

another thing nobody mentioned is the thai red cross school in sathorn. they do super cheap group classes like 200 baht per 2 hour session but it's more of a classroom vibe with 10-15 people. good for practice but not flexible hours. for private tutors on a budget, check the thai language teachers group on line, there's always people posting last minute slots for 400-500 baht

if you're on an elite visa and just want flexible hours without the visa paperwork, try the thai language program at chulalongkorn's bannthai. they do small groups and private sessions, rates are around 600-800 per hour for one-on-one. the teachers are usually grad students so they know their grammar well. also check out the language exchange at soi cowboy on wednesday nights at the foreign correspondents club, it's free to practice and you can find tutors there who charge less

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
