how to extend my visa?

honestly if you're on a visa exemption (the 30 day stamp you get at the airport) you can only extend once for another 30 days at chang wattana like the other person said. but if you're on a proper tourist visa (60 day one) you can extend for another 30 days too, same process just different form. also heads up they're strict about the dress code now no shorts or sandals, saw a guy get turned away last week for wearing flip flops. if you're near siam there's a smaller immigration office at the mall but it only does certain stuff, stick with chang wattana for extensions

If you're on a visa exemption or tourist visa and need more than that single extension, you could look into a border run. Take a bus to a nearby border like Mae Sot or Aranyaprathet, cross into Myanmar or Cambodia, then come back same day for a new 30 day stamp. The minivans leave from Mo Chit or Khao San around 6am and cost about 1500 baht including the agent handling the paperwork. Just know immigration has been tightening up on back to back land border entries, so you might get questioned if you do it too often.

the online appointment system at chang wattana is worth looking into if you hate waiting around. you book a specific time slot on their website and skip the main line, saves you a solid 3 hours of standing around. only problem is the slots fill up fast, like a week or two in advance sometimes, so plan ahead. also bring a pen, they make you fill out forms by hand and the loaner ones there are always missing

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
