Best noodles near Kokinaemsae in 2026?

fmd_goodKokinaemsae · #city #noodles #kokinaemsae
I'm visiting soon and keep hearing about Kokinaemsae, is it worth a stop for noodles? Also, what's the best way to get there from the main city area? I'm visiting soon and keep hearing about Kokinaemsae, is it worth a stop for noodles? Also, what's the best way to get there from the main city area?

Kokinaemsae is a bit of a trek from central Bangkok, so I'd take the BTS to the end of the line then a motorbike taxi. The boat noodle stalls around there are worth it but go before noon, they sell out.

Second this, but the boat noodles are gone by 11.

Depends on the day, I've rolled in at 11:30 on a weekday and still got a bowl.

yeah the motorbike leg is the part people underestimate, from the BTS stop it's a good 10 min ride and drivers will quote you 60 to 80 baht. tell them the noodle alley not the market or you'll get dropped at the wrong end.

the alley entrance is easy to miss, it's the narrow soi just past the 7-Eleven with the red awning. drivers know it but if you're walking look for the cluster of plastic stools. morning is the move, by 1pm most pots are scraped clean

honestly that red awning is the only landmark that matters, the soi sign is tiny and half hidden by a vendor cart. i'd add that if the stools are already stacked by 10am, the broth's basically done, so dont bother sitting down.

Fair point on the fare, though I've been quoted 100 when it's raining and drivers smell desperation. Grab bikes are fixed price if you'd rather skip the haggling, usually cheaper too. Just watch the soi numbering once you're off, they don't run in order.

BTS to Khu Khot then songthaew, cheaper than the bike.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

arrow_drop_up 5 arrow_drop_down

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
