Specifically around 7 to 8am before the offices fill up. Any spots on Silom Soi 4 or up toward Chong Nonsi worth the detour?

The hole-in-the-wall on Silom Soi 8 past the massage places opens at 6.30 and does a solid 55 baht americano, cash only.

Cash only still true, or did they get a QR code yet?

still no QR as of last week, but they take TrueMoney now if u ask, guy just pulls up the wallet on his phone

that auntie also does a proper iced latte for 65 & it's the only reason i'm late to work

yeah their iced americano is the move, 60 baht

Worth noting they close by 2pm sharp, so don't roll in expecting an afternoon cup.

Last order is actually 1.45, they start stacking chairs while you're still sipping.

Their khao tom gai clears the coffee queue by 7, so go for breakfast instead.

Ceresia on Silom Soi 6 is the one I'd walk to, they're pulling proper shots by 7 and it's quiet before the office crowd. If you go up toward Chong Nonsi, Kaizen on Naradhiwas does a decent flat white but doesn't open until 7.30, so it's tight on your timeline. Soi 4 itself is mostly dead at that hour, nothing worth the detour.

Roots on Sathorn Soi 8, opens 7 sharp.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
