Best deli sandwiches at The Pickle Barrel Bangkok 2026?

fmd_goodThe Pickle Barrel · #bangkok #sandwiches #deli
I'm visiting Bangkok in 2026 and keep hearing about The Pickle Barrel for deli sandwiches. What should I order on a first visit, and is it worth going out of my way for lunch? go for the pastrami on rye & skip the queue by hitting it around 2pm, worth the detour if ur already near sukhumvit soi 22

Pastrami's the move but get the Reuben instead.

honestly the 2pm tip only works on weekdays, weekends it's packed all afternoon so shoot for 3 or later

Soi 22 location closed, they moved to Thonglor.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

thought they were still on 22 tbh

They're on Sukhumvit 55 now, near Thong Lo BTS.

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

still is, just the other end of the street now

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

yeah but they relocated a while back so that detour tip is stale now, head to the new spot instead

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Pastrami on rye still the right call, just a different address now.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

fair, but the new spot's a bit smaller so the pastrami sells out by mid arvo sometimes

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
