🚇 Airport Rail Link
The Airport Rail Link is the fastest and most affordable way to reach central Bangkok from Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). It runs from 6:00 AM to midnight, with trains every 10-15 minutes, and costs between 45 and 65 baht depending on your destination. The journey to Makkasan or Phaya Thai station takes about 30 minutes, where you can connect to the BTS Skytrain or MRT subway.

🚕 Taxi Tips and Scams
Official airport taxis are available at the public taxi stand on Level 1, but always insist on using the meter. A typical metered fare to the city center (including expressway tolls) should be around 250-400 baht, plus a 50 baht airport surcharge. Avoid drivers who quote a flat rate or refuse to use the meter, and never follow touts offering unlicensed rides.

🚌 Public Bus Options
For budget travelers, public buses from Suvarnabhumi Airport serve various parts of the city. Routes like the S1 bus to Khao San Road cost 60 baht and run from 6:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Buses depart from the airport's bus terminal, which is a short walk from the arrivals hall, and can take 45-90 minutes depending on traffic.

🚗 Ride-Hailing Apps
Grab and Bolt are widely used in Bangkok and offer fixed-price rides from the airport. A GrabCar to Sukhumvit typically costs 400-600 baht, while GrabTaxi uses a metered fare plus a booking fee. Both apps allow you to pay by card or cash, and you can track your driver's location in real time.

🚐 Private Transfers
Pre-booking a private transfer through services like Klook or Viator provides a hassle-free option with a meet-and-greet at the arrivals gate. Prices start around 800 baht for a standard car to the city center, and include all tolls and luggage handling. This is ideal for groups or late-night arrivals when public transport is limited.

🛬 Don Mueang Airport
If you're flying with a budget airline, you may arrive at Don Mueang Airport (DMK). The cheapest way to the city is the A1 or A2 bus to Mo Chit BTS station (30 baht), or the SRT commuter train to Hua Lamphong (10-20 baht). Taxis from DMK are metered but often add a 50 baht surcharge; expect 200-400 baht to central areas.

⏰ Late Night Arrivals
The Airport Rail Link stops running at midnight, so late-night arrivals must rely on taxis or ride-hailing apps. Public buses also stop around 10:00 PM. If you land after midnight, pre-book a private transfer or use the official taxi queue, which operates 24/7. Keep small bills handy for tolls and the surcharge.

Solid write-up. One thing I'd mention is that the Airport Rail Link's Express Line (the one that goes nonstop to Makkasan) was suspended a few years back and hasn't returned, so don't wait around for a faster train -- they're all the same City Line now. Also, if you're heading to the old town or Khao San Road, the S1 bus is a steal at 60 baht but it drops you at the far end of the street, not right in front of the backpacker hub. I've taken it a few times and it's reliable, just budget an extra 10 minutes for the walk.

Great guide, really covers everything. One thing I'd flag is that the Airport Rail Link ticket machines only take coins, so if you've got nothing but big bills after landing, hit the exchange counter or a 7-Eleven first to break them. I learned that the hard way with a 1,000 baht note and had to queue for the staff window.

honestly this is a solid guide, one thing i'd add is that if you're taking the Airport Rail Link, avoid the rush hour crush at Phaya Thai if you can. the platform gets absolutely packed between 5-7pm and you'll be sardine-tight with commuters. also, the Makkasan station has a direct connection to the MRT Petchaburi line now, which is way less chaotic than hauling bags up to the BTS at Phaya Thai. for taxis, the 50 baht surcharge is only from the official queue, not from the app-based ones like Grab.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
