I've heard these supermarkets are HUGE in Thailand. My question is: what's the weirdest thing you've ever seen stocked on the shelves of a MaxValu? I'm genuinely curious because I'm picturing a bizarre fusion of Western and Thai groceries...and I'm hoping for some good stories. Seriously, I've seen photos of some unusual snacks online, but I want the local experience! I am prepared for anything...hopefully not durian-flavored toothpaste though. That would be a nightmare.

One time, I found a whole section dedicated to bird's nest soup ingredients. Not just the nests themselves, but like, everything you'd need to prepare it, specialized scissors, little porcelain bowls, even instructional pamphlets. It was...intense. Another time, they had these weirdly colorful, neon-green drinks that tasted vaguely of...soap? I still have no idea what they were. But yeah, MaxValu is a trip. Prepare yourself.

Wow, bird's nest soup ingredients?! That's...a level of dedication I wasn't expecting. Specialized scissors? Seriously? I thought I was just lost, but now I'm intrigued. Those neon green drinks sound terrifying. Soap-flavored beverages are a new low, even for a supermarket. I'm already bracing myself for the weirdness. Thanks for the heads-up!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
