Heard it's a vibrant neighbourhood, but everyone keeps mentioning these "secret" street food stalls. Apparently, they only open late at night and are known only to the locals. My question is: how on earth do I find these legendary late-night food stalls without getting completely lost in the maze of sois? I'm already picturing myself wandering around until sunrise, starving and utterly confused. Hoping someone can give me some insider tips before I become another lost farang!

for real, the blue shuttered shophouse on Soi Wichian 3 is legit but dont go too early. they usually fire up the wok around 10:30-11pm when the soi dogs settle down. if u see a bunch of taxis parked haphazardly, ur in the right spot. thai taxi drivers know where the good stuff is at.

also, the lady with the red cart is great but if u want something different, walk two sois over towards Soi Wichian 5. there's a guy who does grilled pork neck with this insane tamarind dip, only like 40 baht a stick. he sets up by the 7-Eleven with the broken sign. no plastic stools there just a cooler he sits on.

The secret stalls along Soi Wichian 3 are what you're after. They set up around 10 PM behind the old shophouse with the faded blue shutters. You'll know you're close when you see the plastic stools and hear the sizzle of the wok. Grab the pork skewers from the auntie with the red cart, she's been there for 25 years and her nam jim is the best in the area.

fwiw the best way in is to just follow the food delivery guys on scooters around 11pm. they swarm those sois and you'll end up right where the action is. the stall at the end of Soi Wichian 7 does this unreal grilled river prawn, very little english but just point at what looks good and smile

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
