So I finally ate at Thuyen, that little gem everyone raves about near the river. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best pho I've ever had. But...the menu was ONLY in Vietnamese. I pointed at… So I finally ate at Thuyen, that little gem everyone raves about near the river. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best pho I've ever had. But...the menu was ONLY in Vietnamese. I pointed at pictures and hoped for the best. My stomach is happy, but my brain's a little fuzzy. Anyone know a good website or app with translated menus for places like this in the @Bangkok area? I'd love to go back, but ordering feels like a culinary game of Russian roulette!

the menu thing is kinda the charm of that place tbh. but if u wanna cheat next time, take a pic of the menu and send it to your line group chat with thai friends or the bangkok foodies group - someone will translate it for u in like 2 minutes. also fyi the stir fried morning glory with crispy pork is #17 and its insanely good, i always get it when i go. the river view from the upstairs tables at sunset is worth the gamble alone

honestly just screenshot the menu before you go next time and run it through google lens offline. works better than the live camera cause the lighting at thuyen is awful for scanning. also the waitress speaks enough english to explain what the numbers mean if you just ask, she's used to it

ngl you're overthinking this. Thuyen's menu is pretty straightforward once you know the setup. the numbers correspond to the photos on the wall near the counter. just point at the number, not the picture on the menu. if you want the good stuff, anything in the 30s is their northern-style pho, the 40s are bun dishes. also they have an english menu if you ask, they just dont hand it out by default cause most regulars know the drill

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
