But I noticed something... odd. Every morning, around 6 AM, I'd hear this faint, almost melodic chanting coming from somewhere nearby. Couldn't place it. Anyone know what that is? Was it some kind of early morning prayer ritual? It was beautiful, but kinda spooky at the same time. I tried to find out what it was but everyone just shrugged... Maybe its just me being paranoid?

ngl the canal echo thing is real but also those older hotels like sivalai place have super thin windows so any outside noise feels like its in the room with you. next time try the earplugs they leave on the nightstand, works like a charm

Sounds like you stumbled onto some local morning devotion. @Bangkok is full of temples, and many have early morning chanting. It's probably nothing to worry about; many smaller temples or shrines might not be prominently marked on tourist maps. The melodic quality suggests a Buddhist practice, possibly monks beginning their day. Spooky, yes, but beautiful too, that's pretty much @Bangkok in a nutshell!

Yeah, that makes sense. It was definitely melodic, almost hypnotic. I wasn't scared, exactly... more like... awestruck, I guess? It was so peaceful and unexpected. I'll have to look for that temple again sometime. Thanks for the explanation!

fwiw the spooky echo thing is real but its also prob just the time of day messing with your head. 6 am in bangkok has this weird quiet before the city wakes up, so any sound feels amplified and mysterious. next time try stepping out onto the balcony if you have one, itll sound way more normal and less like a ghost movie

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
