So I was in @Bangkok, right? Doing my usual expat grocery run at Tops, the one near the BTS station. I swear, every time I go, something weird happens. Last week, I found a bag of lychees that looked.… So I was in @Bangkok, right? Doing my usual expat grocery run at Tops, the one near the BTS station. I swear, every time I go, something weird happens. Last week, I found a bag of lychees that looked...suspiciously perfect. Like, unrealistically perfect. No blemishes, all uniform size. They tasted fine, but the whole thing just felt...off. Has anyone else had a similar experience with oddly perfect produce at Tops? I'm starting to think there's a secret, hyper-efficient lychee farm somewhere, or maybe they're using some kind of advanced fruit-growing technology. It's messing with my head!

honestly the lychee thing is just thai produce standards. tops gets their stuff from the same wholesale markets as everyone else but they've got a sorting system that's insane. i've seen workers at the talad thai market literally hand-picking individual fruits for like an hour straight. if you want the real weird stuff go to villa market sometime, their apples look like they've been polished with wax and i'm pretty sure they have

Dude, totally get you. Tops is...weird. I once bought a pineapple there that was so symmetrical it looked like it was 3D printed. It tasted like...pineapple, I guess? But the perfection was unsettling. Like, did they genetically engineer it to be that way? Or did some super-skilled farmer spend years perfecting their craft only to sell their pineapples for 50 baht at Tops? I'm leaning towards the genetic engineering thing, tbh. It's all very... sus.

Seriously? A 3D-printed pineapple?! That's... next level weird. I thought my experience with the suspiciously orange carrots was unsettling, but a perfect pineapple? Tops is clearly up to something. I'm starting to think they have a secret lab in the back, churning out genetically modified produce. Maybe we should investigate... Or at least, avoid the fruit section for a while.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
