The food stalls were amazing, the people incredibly friendly... but I got hopelessly lost a couple of times! Seriously, some of those alleys were barely wide enough for a motorbike. My question is: are there any locals' maps or guides highlighting the less-traveled paths? I'd love to explore more, but without the constant fear of becoming a permanent resident of a particularly narrow alley.

tbh just look for the blue shutters. every soi in that community has one house with faded blue shutters and if you keep those on your right you'll eventually hit the canal. learned that from a guy selling grilled pork on a bicycle

honestly the second guy's tip about the community office map is real, that photocopy is a lifesaver. but here's another angle: grab a coffee at ba mee giew on soi 3 and just chat with the owner, she's lived there since the 70s and will literally draw you a route on a napkin with her favorite shortcuts. the real secret is that most of those sois loop back to the canal if you keep heading downhill, so you can't truly get stuck for long. also the soi dogs know the paths better than anyone, if a local dog starts following you just trust it for a bit

The community actually has a small map, it's just not online. The Wat Mai Wichian Community Office near the canal entrance keeps a hand-drawn one they'll photocopy for you if you ask. It labels the main soi connections and a few landmarks like the old shophouse with the giant jasmine bush, but it won't save you from the truly hidden dead ends. Honestly, the best trick is to follow the electrical wires back toward the main road when you're turned around, works better than any map.

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
