Heard it's gorgeous, but also kinda sprawling. Anyone know the best shortcuts or hidden pathways students use to get between buildings? I'm already picturing myself hopelessly lost on day one, dodging lecturers and overflowing bins... Seriously, though, tips appreciated! It's gonna be a long trek between classes if I rely solely on the official maps.

ngl the best shortcut is the one through the old dormitory complex near the river. there's a walkway that connects the back of the science building to the humanities block, but you gotta go up to the second floor and cut through the laundry area. smells like detergent and old socks but it's direct. also the soi behind the 7-eleven on charan sanit wong soi 40 has a hidden gate that opens into the back of the education faculty, just push it, it's not locked. the security guys know but they don't care

fwiw the real shortcut nobody mentions is the soi that runs behind the mosque near the south gate. it's not on any campus map but the vendors there know the way, just ask for "the students' path" and they'll point u. cuts straight to the language building in like 3 mins vs the 15 min loop around the admin block. the only downside is the soi dogs near the corner shop, they're chill if u buy a pack of meji milk from the auntie there first. also the path gets a bit muddy after rain so wear sandals u dont mind ruining

not sure if anyone mentioned the hidden staircase in the library annex. go up to the third floor fire exit, it's usually propped open with a brick. that staircase drops you right behind the old auditorium, saves walking all the way around the pond. the stairs are kinda narrow and there's no light after 6pm so bring your phone flashlight

Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but I've always found their som tam a bit tame on the pla ra. If you want the real funky version, try the shophouse spots along Soi Udomsuk 26, near the night market end. They pound it fresh with fermented fish that'll clear your sinuses, and it's like 60 baht. Different style from the On Nut places, more Lao-leaning.

for som tam specifically i'd say the Isaan spots in Chatuchak are underrated, weekdays only though since the weekend crowd ruins the vibe. there's a stall near gate 2 that does tam pa with fermented bamboo shoots, super sour and funky, not something you see much in On Nut. if you're already heading north for Or Tor Kor anyway its worth the detour.

honestly the som tam at Krua Dok Mai Kao is good but what got me hooked is their nam prik pla raa dip with the raw veggies, that funk hits way harder than the papaya does. think most people sleep on it cuz they just order the som tam and gai yang. also pro tip, go before noon on weekdays, after that teh pla ra gets milder cuz they batch it for the lunch rush
