Seriously, two treadmills and a dusty weight machine? Is that typical for hotels in that area of Bangkok or did I just get unlucky? I'm planning another trip and hoping to find a better equipped hotel gym next time.

Nah, that's not typical for even budget hotels in that area of Bangkok, let alone a place like Sivalai Place. Two treadmills and a dusty weight machine is...rough. Lots of hotels in that price range have much better gyms. You probably just had a bad draw. Look at reviews carefully next time, focusing specifically on the gym photos and descriptions. Many sites let you filter by gym equipment. Good luck with your next trip!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
