Anyone know the story behind it? I'm dying to know its significance to the hotel or maybe even @Bangkok itself. It felt kinda...charged, you know? Like there was a story waiting to be told. Maybe some local legend or something. Anyway, the staff were super friendly

ah that little one near the elevators? yeah i know the one. it's a plain old spirit house, not really a shrine with a deep story. prob just left over from when the building was something else before the hotel, maybe a private residence or small apartments. thais put those up for the guardian spirit of the land, so when they renovated they just left it there instead of moving it. feels charged because it's old and tucked away, but tbh most spirit houses here have that vibe after a while. if you want a real local legend, check out the giant swing near wat suthat, that thing has actual history behind it.

Wow, that's cool! I've stayed at Sivalai Place too, but I never noticed that shrine. You're right, that does sound intriguing. It's probably something fairly specific to the building's history, maybe even predating the hotel itself. @Bangkok is full of those little hidden bits of history, you stumble on something amazing and then you're left wondering about the whole story. Maybe try searching online for older photos of that area? Or even contacting the hotel directly, they might have some interesting info on its origins. I bet someone there would be happy to share a local legend or two.

man why are you asking on a q&a site just ask the front desk next time you're there its literally a hotel shrine not some hidden temple mystery probably just a spirit house for the land's guardian. thais put those everywhere it's not that deep

best som tam in Bangkok? Krua Dok Mai Kao 2026

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
