Toyota Corolla Reliability?

My grandpa swore his lasted him 300,000 miles with only oil changes. But I'm seeing some mixed reviews online, some horror stories about unexpected repairs. Is the "indestructible" Corolla myth just that...a myth? Or are these issues isolated incidents? I really need to know before I commit. I'm already picturing myself stranded on some highway, surrounded by broken-down Toyotas... Seriously though, what's the deal?

Depends heavily on maintenance history. Grandpa's 300k mile Corolla? That's the exception, not the rule. Even Toyotas need regular servicing. A neglected 2010 Corolla will absolutely throw you curveballs. Check the service records meticulously. Look for signs of neglected maintenance, rust, leaks, questionable repairs. If the paperwork's clean and the car's been looked after, your chances of a relatively problem-free experience are much higher. But, no car is truly indestructible. Even a well-maintained Corolla can have things go wrong unexpectedly, that's just the nature of owning any used vehicle. So, due diligence is key.

Yeah, makes total sense. My grandpa had one that ran forever, but that was a different era, I guess. I'm looking at a 2015 model, so hopefully, a decent service history will tell the tale. Thanks for the heads-up about the rust and leaks, I'll definitely be keeping a sharp eye out for those. Appreciate the advice!

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
