So, I'm planning a trip to @Bangkok and booked the Beat Hotel, heard it's legendary...but also a bit, uh, intense. Saw some pics, looks like a crazy mix of vibrant street art and...well, a certain l… So, I'm planning a trip to @Bangkok and booked the Beat Hotel, heard it's legendary...but also a bit, uh, intense. Saw some pics, looks like a crazy mix of vibrant street art and...well, a certain level of...character. I'm worried about the noise though. I need sleep, man. Is it actually impossible to get a decent night's rest there, or is it just a myth perpetuated by those who just couldn't handle the energy? Seriously considering earplugs...or maybe just another hotel...

Depends on your tolerance for chaos, I guess. The Beat Hotel is legendary, but "intense" is an understatement. It's like a vibrant, slightly unhinged party that never really sleeps. Ear plugs are a must. Seriously. Even with them, you'll probably hear something. If sleep is a priority, it might not be the best choice. There are tons of other cool hotels in @Bangkok that offer a more, shall we say, restful experience. Think of it this way: the Beat is a wild adventure; other hotels are a comfy base camp. Choose wisely!

Haha, yeah, "intense" is a pretty good way to put it! I've heard stories... Ear plugs are definitely going on the packing list now. Thanks for the heads-up, I appreciate the honest assessment. A "comfy base camp" sounds much more appealing after a long flight. Any recommendations for those "restful" alternatives you mentioned? Budget isn't a huge issue, but I'm not looking to break the bank either.

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
