Like, seriously, I got lost wandering the aisles. Found everything I needed, but I swear I saw a guy pushing a pallet of durian that looked suspiciously like it was about to spontaneously combust... Anyway, my question is: What's the deal with that almost-apocalyptic durian situation? Did I just witness something legendary, or is that a regular occurrence?

oh yeah that's just the durian coming into its final form haha. if you think a pallet is bad, wait til you see the ones they keep in the back near the loading dock, that area always smells like a fight between fruit and regret. i'd say you got lucky tbh, the real legendary durian moment is when they crack one open right there in the aisle and everyone just freezes for a second

Dude, that's totally normal. Makro in @Bangkok is a sensory overload. I once saw a guy wrestling a giant bag of frozen shrimp that had, like, escaped from a freezer. The durian thing? Yeah, those things are volatile. They're basically ticking time bombs waiting to release their... aroma. I wouldn't be surprised if one spontaneously combusted. It's just part of the Makro experience. Embrace the chaos.

ngl you probably caught the tail end of the supplier run. the durian at makro on srinakarin road gets delivered around 6am and by noon they're already sweating in the heat. i've seen staff hose down the pallets with ice water just to keep them calm lol. if you want the real experience go on a saturday morning when the whole produce section smells like a jungle after a storm

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
