Heard the food stalls around the uni are amazing, but totally overwhelmed by the choices! Any locals wanna spill the tea on their absolute favorite hidden (not-so-hidden, I guess) gem? Seriously considering a food crawl... but need some guidance to avoid the tourist traps. What are the must-try dishes or stalls I shouldn't miss?

tbh the real move is the late night pork leg rice cart that sets up around 7pm on the corner of the soi with the big temple, it's just a guy with a halogen lamp and a pot but the meat is fall apart tender. get the rice with a soft boiled egg and extra sauce, it's like 45 baht and he'll throw in some pickled chilies if u ask nicely. also if u see a group of students huddled around a cart selling those little banana rotis with condensed milk, that's the dessert move after the pork leg

yeah the boat noodle stalls on the soi behind the uni are legit, just look for the one with the big metal pot and a line of students. i'd skip the pad thai near the main gate, it's okay but overpriced. if u see a cart selling khao man gai with a long queue around 11am, that's the one. grab a plate of the grilled pork skewers from the lady near the 7-eleven, they're 10 baht each and way better than the ones closer to the river

the som tum stall on the soi that runs parallel to the river is where the real action is tbh. it's run by this older couple, the wife pounds everything by hand and you can hear the mortar from down the street. get the som tum pu with salted crab, it's 50 baht and she'll ask how spicy u want it on a scale of 1-10 - don't go past 5 if ur not used to it lol. also they have this grilled catfish with a green mango salad that's not on the menu but if u ask the husband he'll nod and bring it out from the back

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
