My uncle had one, drove it into the ground, literally, it was insane! He swore it never needed anything besides oil changes and new tires. But I've heard horror stories about certain years having transmission issues. Is the 2008 Corolla particularly prone to transmission problems, or was my uncle just ridiculously lucky? I really need to know before I hand over any money...

The 2008 Corolla's reputation is generally good, but yeah, transmission issues can pop up. It's not a universal problem, more of a lottery. Your uncle clearly won the jackpot! Before buying, get a pre-purchase inspection from a reputable mechanic specializing in Toyotas. They can spot potential transmission problems, a professional opinion is worth its weight in gold in this situation, especially given the age. Don't solely rely on your uncle's experience; every car's different. Thorough inspection is key!

Yeah, that makes total sense. Uncle Bob's been raving about his for years, practically swore it would never die. Guess I should've known better than to trust a single anecdote! A pre-purchase inspection is definitely happening. Thanks for the heads-up; saved me a potential headache (and a lot of cash).

yeah Krua Dok Mai Kao is solid but if you're up for a detour, try Som Tum Nua near Siam Square. their som tam pu pla ra is insane if you like the fermented fish sauce kick. way more pungent than the On Nut spot, just less grilled chicken options
